INTERVIEW WITH FLORENCIA HERNANDEZ

As the countdown begins from the premiere of Siglo Event we decided to get close and personal with Florencia Hernandez AKA “Flor” and get to know the person behind the artist. Flor was selected to participate in the Siglo event because her artwork consists of stickling powerful images that tend to appeal to the deeper side in all of us.

Siglo Events: So Florencia we are exited that you are participating in Siglo event, instead of talking about the artwork tell us a little bit about yourself, where were you born? Where have you been?

Florencia Hernandez: Well I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina I lived in Buenos Aires until the age of 14 and have lived in Miami ever since.

SE: So lets talk about the process. What is your creative process when it comes to creating your artwork?

FH: My creative process does not come with a specific equation. It flows through me in a non-conventional manner. The more I seek, the less I find. Therefore I must let it be. Let it come as it wishes to. Usually in mind state of sleep and awake at 3am in the morning during random nights. I wake up and jot down my ideas in what seems to be a trans-like state. I wait a few days, and then begin to assimilate the conceptual aspect of my idea and move on from there…

SE: What artist do you feel have influenced your work?

FH I’m very much influenced by painters such as Caravaggio, the way he used color to define the atmosphere within an image. Also, very much influenced by the Abstract Expressionist movement and the passion it held within each artist. The impulsiveness yet over thought manner in which they executed each piece. With and without…

Photographically, I’m a huge fan of Francesca Woodman and Duane Michals work.

SE: Shows that you have participated this year?

FH: This year I participated in Lady Fest 2014 and Mock-tail MIU 2014 Photography Major

SE: when it comes to the art scene Miami is relatively young but as an artist living in Miami what’s your take in the recent Art Movement in Miami?

FH I’m extremely excited of what I’m seeing in the Miami Art world today. I think there is certainly a wonderful sense of diversity and a much more heightened level of embracement towards Art itself. Needless to say I’m elated to have the opportunity as a Fine Art Conceptual Photographer to be part of it! . It is a wonderful opportunity and I have nothing but great joy to be a part of such event.

Flor’s work will be shown this December 5th along with more than 20 visual artist. The event is going to take place at Maps Backlot in Wynwood, Fl. The gates open at 8.
